Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo 2024

Benaiah Namunyu had the privilege of representing MURESA at at the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum and Expo at KICC in Nairobi, that was co-hosted by GOGLA and The World Bank. One major highlight of the forum was the role of student-led initiatives in fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector, where many companies that were featured originated from campus-based research and student projects. They later transformed into successful enterprises, showcasing the significant impact of young innovators in the energy industry.

WRI - Energy Access Explorer Training
7th October 2024
MURESA members recently underwent training by the World Resources Institute on the Energy Access Explorer (EAE), an online platform for identifying high-priority areas for clean energy expansion. The training covered the importance of energy access for sustainable development, energy planning concepts, energy systems models and their gaps, and the significance of geospatial planning in the energy access field. By utilizing the EAE, MURESA members can now make informed decisions about where to undertake clean energy projects, contributing to broader efforts to improve energy access in the sub-Saharan region.
US - Africa Nuclear Energy Summit 2024

Members of the Multimedia University Renewable Energy Students Association (MURESA) recently had the privilege of attending the US-Africa Nuclear Energy Summit at the Movenpick Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi.
This four-day event brought together various stakeholders in the space to discuss the evolving landscape of nuclear energy. It was an invaluable opportunity for our members to gain insight into cutting-edge nuclear technologies, industry challenges, and the growing role of nuclear energy in the global sustainability agenda.

Our Club Patron and National Institute for Optics & Lasers' (NIOL) Ag. Director, Dr. David Wekesa, was among the top researchers honoured with Outstanding Researcher Awards (NORA) at the inaugural National Research Fund (NRF) Festival 2024.

ACCA Project

The Quest for clean cooking in Africa received a powerful boost through the launch of Accelerated Clean Cooking Action Project by UNDP. This initiative that is financed by The people from Japan, aims to transit 10,000 families living in five counties to clean cooking practices.
MURESA in partnership with The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP), Clean Cooking Association of Kenya (CCAK) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), undertook the project in counties Laikipia, Kajiado and Machakos with only two counties left. About 6,000 Cookstoves were distributed which comprised of Multipurpose Cookstove, KCJ, Jikokoa, Gasifiers, Woodstoves and Electric Pressure Cookers.
